(January 07, 2024): Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary and Reservoir Field Trip

Deccan Birders is glad to invite you for a field trip to Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary & Reservoir (

https://maps.app.goo.gl/4SEw6kXwyG4oYXpt7) located in Sangareddy District, on 07-Jan-2024 (SUNDAY). This is a great opportunity to observe and record the diversity of waterbirds and woodland birds in this important habitat.
Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary and Reservoir is a man-made reservoir that provides drinking water to Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It has nine small islands that host a variety of habitats and species. The sanctuary is home to more than 70 species of birds, including large flocks of common teal, cotton pygmy goose, ruddy shelduck, painted stork, Eurasian coot, black-crowned night heron, and many more. Also, Manjeera Dam and surrounding fields are good viewing points for finches, wagtails, ibises, munias and more. The area is also home to a various species of birds, look out for WaterCock,Red Necked Phalarope, Bluethroat, Small Minivet, Fork-tailed Drongo-Cuckoo,  Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Rain Quail, Jungle Bush-Quail, Rock Bush-Quail, Barred Buttonquail,  Painted Francolin, Baya Weaver, Black-breasted Weaver, Tricoloured Munia, Black-headed Bunting, Red-headed Bunting etc.

The sanctuary is also a part of the Asian Waterbird Census (AWC), a citizen science programme that monitors the status of waterbirds and wetlands across Asia and Australasia every January. The AWC is coordinated by Wetlands International and contributes to the conservation and management of wetlands and waterbirds at local, national, and international levels.

Those interested in joining the trip may meet at  

IKEA Madhapur (https://maps.app.goo.gl/dKfxmwh426NQZmoF8) by 5:00 AM and will proceed ahead in a convoy by 5:02 AM sharp as it takes 1 and 1/2 hours to reach the final destination. Those who wish to join, can also convergeat the 2nd meeting point at Allwyn Cross Road Footover bridge (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CGahqXiqUQwBnwkP8), by 5:15 AM, 3rd meeting point at Bhel Bus Stop (https://maps.app.goo.gl/LNLutUngoEfQRJQt6), by 5:30 AM or atthe Final meeting point at Taj Dhaba, Muthangi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/oUNvzVXEfEH6xHcS8) by 5:45 AM where we shall have a cup of tea and start by 6 am sharp. 


As it is a day trip and breakfast options at the locations are minimal, please carry breakfast and enough water to keep yourselves hydrated.
